Thread Vein Treatment

Intro
Millions of women are concerned by thread veins, those small yet unsightly clusters of red or purple veins that most commonly appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. These thread veins do not pose any major health problems, however for many women they find them unsightly and embarrassing, often attempting to conceal them with clothing or resort to cosmetic cover ups, the results of which are often disappointing. Today a simple treatment called Thread Vein Removal (Sclerotherapy) is successfully being used to correct unwanted thread veins
Thread veins are caused by a number of factors including heredity, pregnancy and hormonal shifts, weight gain, and occupational habits like sitting or standing for long periods of time.  Women of any age suffer from thread veins.

What Is Thread Vein Removal ?
Thread vein removal is a procedure in which the medical practitioner, using a syringe with a tiny gauge needle, injects a small amount of a fibrovein solution directly into the thread vein. The solution displaces the blood within the vein, making it blanch and turn white.  The solution then causes the vessel to become irritated and to close, preventing the blood from re-entering the vein. The thread vein will gradually fade and within 2 to 8 weeks following treatment should disappear.  However some areas may require several treatments to achieve optimum results.

The Procedure
A typical session takes around 30 minutes.  Following assessment the practitioner cleans the area and while stretching the skin taut injects the solution into the affected veins.  Approximately one injection is administered for every inch of thread vein, which can be anywhere from 5 to 40 injections per treatment session.  A cotton ball and compression tape is then applied to each area of the leg as it is injected.  The treatment is not considered painful as the needle is so fine and the solution used is very mild.

Following The Treatment
You will need to wear medium support tights or stockings following the treatment.  These help to compress the veins and lend support.  The stockings should be worn day and night for the next 72 hours.  Following the treatment the veins will sometimes look worse before they begin to look better.  They will look bruised and reddish around the injection sites.  The bruises will diminish after 4 weeks

Getting Back To Normal
During the eight weeks following your treatment, you are encouraged to walk as much as possible to prevent any risk of clotting.  Prolonged sitting and standing should be avoided.  Heavy lifting and hard running should be avoided.

Your New Look
The large majority of patients are pleased with the difference sclerotherapy makes.  The skin will appear clearer and more healthy looking.  The tread veins are considerably faded if not all together removed.  Wearing long skirts or trousers to hide your thread veins becomes a thing of the past.
