The Wrinkle Reducer

Intro
This is currently the number one most wanted anti-ageing treatment in the UK. Predominantly used for the softening and smoothing of expression lines; i.e. frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet. As the treatment is quick to administer and has no downtime and produces such dramatic results, it is referred to as the “lunchtime face lift”. The fact that 90% of our clients who try this treatment choose to repeat it, is its own recommendation. Out of all the non–surgical cosmetic treatments on the market today, it is perhaps only Botulinum Toxin Type A injections that deliver such dramatic results.

The Facts
BOTULINUM TOXIN Type A commonly known as Botox®, is a treatment that reduces facial lines and wrinkles by acting on the muscles that cause them. Botox is used predominantly in medicine for the treatment of conditions that are linked with uncontrollable muscular activity such as spasticity, facial ticks, spasms and cerebral palsy. Within Aesthetic medicine, Botox has been used since the late 1980’s. As a cosmetic procedure the treatment was granted a license by the Medical Heath Regulatory Authority (MHRA) in April 2006 for treating the glabellar, the area of the face that produces frown lines. In figures published by the British Board of Cosmetic Doctors (BACD) more than 200,000 people received Botox® injections in 2004, this figure is growing by 40% per year. At UK Aesthetics we use the product named Dysport®, which is the UK’s version of Botulinum Toxin Type A

How Botox Works
Botox, when injected inhibits the release of a chemical called acetylcholine. When we use our muscles this chemical is responsible for delivering the message sent from the brain telling the muscle to contract. Botox inhibits this process by blocking the chemical message, resulting in the muscle becoming more relaxed than normal. As the muscle is in this relaxed state, the areas of skin over the muscle re-hydrate, therefore resulting in a much softer and smoother look to the skin.

How The Treatment Is Administered

The medical practitioner will administer a series of very superficial injections. These injections will take no longer than 10 minutes to perform. The injections are quick and therefore relatively painless. There is very little sign of any injection at the site of entry, so there is no down time needed.

Following The Treatment
The results are not instantaneous but generally take at least 3 days to take effect; gradually the treated wrinkles start to soften. The final results of the treatment will be seen after 14 days. In this time the lines gradually reduce leaving a much smoother and relaxed look. The effects of this treatment can last up to 6 months, the average client reports satisfactory results that last between 4-5 months.
